Experiences

Web Innovator, Sun Microsystems

Starting out as a web producer after finishing my university post graduate course, was I great opportunity. I began learning about how a global company manages their multiple websites worldwide, a proactive introduction to globalisation and localisation. 4 years later, I have helped move the team from static HTML web pages to dynamic JSP and XML web content. Providing much lower maintenance through automated life cycle processes and content re-use, i.e. managing event calendar and feature stories. We are now able add new content once and have that content show in multiple location and cycled out once it has expired – all automatically. I now work to bring new innovation to different parts of the website using new web technologies.

Oracle Financials Project Team Member, London Borough of Hillingdon

The second part of my industry placement from my university course, where I had the opportunity to along side KPMG to development the new Financial Information System using Oracle Financial. I designed and implemented a financial code mapping software, to convert old codes to new, using Microsoft Access 2000 and Visual Basic for Application (VBA). The final application would allow the old codes to entered and converted to the new codes even from imported excel spreadsheets for mass conversion. Also adapted a ‘Spreadsheet Loader’ to loader larger amounts of data onto the new financial information system, including the new financial codes.

Designed the prototype financial web portal to accompany the new financial system.

GIS Software Support/Programmer, London Borough of Hillingdon

The first for two six month industry placements from university. I worked with several departments within the London Borough of Hillingdon to develop custom GIS tools and project solutions using with the ArcView software package. Such projects including; designing and implementing a ‘Search’ GIS solution within the ArcView package using Avenue (similar to Visual Basic), to return graphically the location of childcare services within a set radius of a given address.

Built a intranet site for GIS projects and solutions for the whole organisation, to show what is possible with GIS tools. The intranet website used HTML and javascript.
